Auction and Meeting 2019

51-Veriegated Barns

Success!

We had a great auction on November 2nd!
I, Elizabeth with Lacey’s help as Facebook publicity met our goal which was to bring in more non quilters to our auction.

Of course all the other publicity. The bookmarks, posters that were put up and all our members that invited friends were also a great part of this success.

Turns out we had 100 paddles out and 51 of those went to non members — a majority and some of our members were also in a buying mood — I am looking at you Frances. 🙂

Each year we auction off between 50 and 60 items and many years the bidding runs past 9pm as the auctioneer tries to coax extra bids. This year paddles went up quickly and prices jumped — we were done not long after 8:30. A record for time and speed!

Our long term auctioneer, Rick Mancuso, looked only too pleased to have several buyers for most quilts and did a great job as usual selling and keeping us entertained.

This year many of the quilts fetched great prices that not only reflected the cost of the materials but also of the labor and artistry. The variegated barn quilt at the top was the last quilt auctioned and it went for an amazing $2,500!

The golden needle award — for the bid winning quilt made by an individual — went to Mary V. for her beautiful Buffalo People Quilt. It went for $675!

The meeting the following Monday was a great antidote for all the excitement of the Saturday Auction. A chance to talk, visit, eat pie, and participate in a session of chair yoga. Many of us found those stretches very useful.
Thanks Cindy for a great program.

We got to toast our Unsung Hero for 2019, Sandy P. who is now back in town. Laura gave a lovely toast and it appears to me that Dora and Sandy coordinated their outfits. 🙂

Lois K. (treasurer) informed us that never before had she dealt with so many $100 bills. We brought in over $14,827 at the auction before expenses. WOW!

We were able to give the Yes Mam Quilt to the winner of the raffle — Kim Banos.
Her son stopped in at the meeting to pick it up. She had purchased tickets at the Golden Oak Honey Festival the week before.

Members who did not forget their block of the month which this month was Road to CA.
