Reflections on Quilt Guild Birthday

Enjoying a Special June Birthday

In June of 1989 a special event was born, The Almond Country Quilt
Guild. The signatures of the initial charter members brought hope that
this Quilt Guild could not only make quilts for those in the
community but serve as a resource to help themselves and others
learn the history and art of quilting while acquiring the skill of
creating serviceable quilts. One goal recognized was to create
compassionate resources to the community it served.

Traditions and gifts through the years have changed the format for
this celebration. Potlucks, cuts of fabric, patterns shared, and fat
quarters wrapped or twisted into unique configurations have all been
included. But the spirit of the celebration continues each year in
June to recognize what has been accomplished and the potential of
next year.

For this year’s celebration members brought potluck followed by cake and ice cream furnished by the Guild.  The theme of the evening was” Everything’s Coming Up Roses”.  Members of the Guild, groups of friends, and sewing circles gathered to celebrate the evening by decorating their tables to reflect the theme. Elaborate place settings, live flowers, and
historic linens sat on the tables.  A small hand crank sewing
machine surrounded by flowers served as centerpiece for one of the
tables. A splendid time was had by all.
