Meet the Teachers April 2019

This year I, Elizabeth got to go to go to a fantastic event in Los Angeles. A perk of being 2nd VP. Even better I went with Kitty and Tess from the Bear Valley guild and we stopped at several fabric shops along the way!

Yes of course I bought fabric, but I was restrained . That was hard when we got to M&L fabrics in Anaheim with their $2 fabric and racks and racks of flat folds. It may have helped that we got there just half an hour before closing! Kitty though found great minky starting at $6/yd.

I spent more $$ at Grant House Sewing machine in Santa Barbara where I found a great 10″ square ruler with which to cut my stash into cakes layers. I also could not resist some gold silk cotton sateen.

The Featherweight in the picture is a donation by Grant House Sewing Machines in Santa Barbara for the & Sister’s Quilt show raffle! Isn’t it a beauty. I fear I will not be the only one to buy raffle tickets for it!

We also stopped at SuperBuzzy where I picked up fabric for the shopHop challenge and Roxanne’s where I drooled over the Kaffe fabric.

The meeting the following morning in Carson featured 42 quilting teachers each with their own booth and a 3 minute presentation. It was really overwhelming, but I have some great ideas for teachers now.

I have Kathryn Pellman for September. She does these wonderful whimsical people cartoon stories. She excited me with her whimsical people. The San Luis Guild is having her in August but without a workshop. You may want to sign up early before I open it up to the SLO guild!

This Friday April 19 several of the guild VPs met for dinner to discuss coordinating programs. We talked about the teachers we liked and how to share programs across guilds. We are going to put more efforts into letting you know when great things are happening at other guilds. (If you do Facebook don’t forget to like our guild page – lots of stuff gets posted there too).

If you are interested in having this grand quilting adventure next year come talk to me. I have to pass on the 2nd VP position in a year and want to train my successor so we have an easy and seamless transition.

Elizabeth
